How Antibiotic Zithromax works

As every medicine has its own advantages and flaw, so patients are advised to take medicine under supervision of a health care provider to avoid any contradictions and side effects. Your doctor can only evaluated the risk and benefit of any medicine according to your medical condition and overall health. A suggestive indication of Azithromycin is listed below. Azithromycin is an anti-infective drug (antibiotic) that is used to prevent or treat Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection. Possible indications of Azithromycin also include some other types of microbial infections such as bacterial pneumonia, toxoplasmosis, and sexually transmitted diseases (i.e. chlamydia). Zithromax will not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

What are the Dosage of zithromax

According to your infection type, the dose of Azithromycin will be decided by your doctor and which may be varied according to your response to the drug. For example, when used to prevent MAC the usual dose of azithromycin is 1200 mg orally taken once weekly. It is not the only dose, may be your doctor may suggest you to take a lower dose. Moreover, when used in combination with other drugs for the treatment of MAC, the usual dose is 500 mg daily which may again vary. Another suggestive therapy in case of bacterial pneumonias is prescribed for 5 days and on the other hand for Chlamydia, generally a single 1 gram dose is advised to be administered.

The optimum duration of drug is totally depending on your condition but you should complete the full course as directed by your doctor. In case of incomplete course it is possible that the infection may not clear completely or your symptoms may return.
