Generic Seroquel for Depression

Quetiapine is the generic name of Seroquel. It is an oral atypical antipsychotic medicine widely indicated for management of mental disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Though, there is no evident data available that can assure the exact mechanism of action of quetiapine, yet it is believed that similar to other atypical anti-psychotic medications, it inhibits the transmission of information among nerve cells in the brain. Seroquel acts to block receptors on the nerve cells for various neurotransmitters (the chemicals conveyor of messages into the nerves). Quetiapine is approved by FDA in September 1997.
