Details

Chlorzoxazone is trade under Paraflex name. Its chemical formulae is 5-chloro-2-benzoxazolione, synthesized by a hetercyclization reaction of 2-amino-4-chlorophenol with phosgene. Inactive ingredients include microcrystalline cellulose, docusate sodium, lactose (hydrous), magnesium stearate, sodium benzoate, sodium starch glycolate and pregelatinized corn starch. It is an antispastic muscle relaxant used to relieve musculoskeletal pain associated with multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and cerebral palsy. Sometimes it is also referred as centrally-acting agent as it first and foremost operates at the level of the spinal cord and subcortical area of the brain where it restrains multisynaptic reflex arcs responsible for fabricating and upholding skeletal muscle spasm. Various studies have confirmed Chlorzoxazone effectiveness for relieving pain and discomfort associated with spinal cord such as back pain, sciatica, herniated disks, spinal stenosis and myofascial pain. Chlorzoxazone was approved for use in the United States in 1958 and is still widely used.
