Osteoporosis

Bones are made up of collagen, protein and calcium and they provide strength to bone.  Osteoporosis is a problem in which bone becomes weak and more prone to break even on the slightest jerk or on minor fall. It is a disease in which bone mass density decreases and bones become porous. It is more common in women after menopause. Bones of waist, spine and ribs are most commonly prone to get fractured.

RISK FACTORS FOR OSTEOPOROSIS:

Factors which are responsible for osteoporosis are genetic factor, deficiency of calcium and vitamin D, lack of exercise, smoking, chronic alcohol consumption, earlier fracture or rheumatoid arthritis, abnormal body weight, menopause in women, hormonal imbalance.

DIAGNOSIS OF OSTEOPOROSIS:

The identification of osteoporosis is done by X-Ray which is later confirmed by the bone density measurement.
