Hepa-Merz is a recipe of two important endogenous Amino Acids, ornithine and aspartate. Hepa Merz adds to the increase of insulin and growth hormone. These properties have contributed to make it an apt medical aid for managing liver disorders. Ornithine and aspartate are amino acids which are important in the biochemical pathways that detoxify ammonia. By this mean drug works to improve the detoxication function of the liver and bring down the elevated levels of ammonia in plasma. It also improves protein metabolism in diseases requiring parenteral nutrition. L-Aspartate is a vital element of citric acid cycle which releases energy, in this way it helps in regeneration of damaged liver cells. . Generic L-Ornithine L-Aspartate with Pancreatin
Strength Hepamerz Tablets
Dosage Generally, up to 4 ampoules of Infusion Concentrate can be applied in a day. In recoma and coma up to 8 ampoules within a period of 24 hours are suggested as initial treatment, depending on the severity of the condition. While in Granule form 1-2 sachets (dissolved in a glass of water, juice or tea) up to 3 times a day at mealtimes are indicated frequently. Patients are recommended to go for a full check-up or as suggested by medical advisor preceding treatment with this drug. Follow the instructions as advised to you for a full duration of treatment. Patients are not supposed to make any changes in the doses without consulting healthcare provider.
Side Effects

Hepa-Merz is generally a well tolerated drug. But in some cases drug is reported with few side effects as well. Frequently reported side effects include GI effects and patients are reported with complains of abdominal uneasiness, nausea and vomiting. In rare and infrequent cases drug is also reported with Buccal and perianal irritation, predominantly in pediatric patients. Colonic strictures are also possible to occur mainly in children reported with cystic fibrosis and receiving high doses of pancreatin preparations. In very rare incidences Hyperuricaemia and hyperuricosuria are also associated with adverse effect of this drug.

Special Note: In case nausea or vomiting symptoms occur in patients, it is necessary to monitor the infusion speed. The drug may influence the ability of activities that requires mental alertness such as driving and using machines. Research is prescribed with caution to patients, concerned in potentially unsafe, risky activities, calling for increased reaction and swiftness of psychomotor action.

• Infusion Concentrate should be administered in monitoring of serum and urinary urea levels. And in case of those patients reported with substantially impaired liver function, the infusion rate must be adjusted to prevent nausea and vomiting like symptoms. An expert medical practitioner role is vital in this case.
• When drug is used in form of Granules it should be noticed that patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance are not supposed to take this medicine. As Hepa-Merz granules contain 1.13 g fructose per sachet. It should also be taken into account in patients with diabetes mellitus.
• In long-term use the drug may harm the health of teeth.
• Patients who have sensitivity to any of the constituents of the drug should not use it.
• Pregnancy and lactation: Female patients with child bearing capacity should take this medicine with caution. The administration of drug in pregnancy and lactation should be avoided. Patients should immediately consult prescriber or health advisor if pregnancy occurs during treatment.
• Medicine is contraindicated in patients with apparent hepatic dysfunction.
