Voltaren contains Diclofenac sodium as active ingredient and its chemical formula is 2-[(2,6-dichlorophenyl)amino] benzeneacetic acid, monosodium salt. Diclofenac sodium is an odourless, yellowish-white, crystalline powder moderately soluble in water. Cetyl alcohol, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, iron oxide, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate, povidone, silicon dioxide, sucrose, talc, titanium dioxide are inactive ingredients of Volteran. It belongs to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID), used to manage pain and inflammation. However, its working mechanism is not known yet researchers have supported the theory which says about its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis may be involved in the anti-inflammatory effect.
