It has anti-inflammatory activity. Inhalational route is a convenient and effective route of drug administration. It delivers the medicine directly to the target site. Route of administration of Beclate inhaler is oral inhalation. This medicine is employed for the long term maintenance therapy of asthma. This medicine can also be employed for children suffering from asthma. It is a prophylactic therapy of asthma and plays an important role in the prevention of bronchospasm and widen up the airways to breathe normally.

Mechanism of Action

Beclomethasone Dipropionate reduces spasms of asthma due to its anti-inflammatory activity. It is a steroid which inhibits leukocyte infiltration at the inflammation site and the blocks the action of inflammatory mediators to suppress immune responses. These mediators produce the swelling of air passages which results in narrowing of air passages. Inhibition of these inflammatory mediators such as Histamine, eicosanoids, leukocytes, prostanoids results in widening up of the airways and improves breathing.


Beclate inhaler is used for the prophylaxis of asthma. It is employed as a symptomatic long term treatment of asthma both in adults and children.

Dosage and Administration

The dose of this medicine can vary from patient to patient because of differences in age, weight, severity of disease, metabolism, and response to the treatment. This medicament should be used only to control the symptoms of asthma; it does not cure asthma permanently. The recommended dose of Beclate inhaler is 1 to 2 inhalations two times a day, one in the morning and another in the evening. Medicine should always be used in the prescribed manner.

Side effects

The most commonly reported side effects associated with the use of Beclate inhaler are dryness of mouth, thinning of skin, sore throat, fungal infection of mouth (oral candidiasis), Pain during breathing, problem in engulfing, excessive thirst, mild cough, headache, infection in the mouth, rashes or itching of skin, sneezing, swelling of face, unable to speak properly, hoarseness of voice, wheezing, white patches in the mouth. Not all the patients using Beclate inhaler face these problems. But if you observe any of the above side effects tell your doctor.

Drug interactions

The medicines which show interaction with this Beclate inhaler are:

  1. Medicine which suppress immune system such as Azathioprin, Methotrexate, Leflunomide, Cyclophosphamide, Mycophenolate Cyclosporine and Nitrogen mustard.

  2. Drugs for seizures: Phenytoin, Phenobarbitone, Methylphenobarbitone and Barbexaclone.

  3. Azole antifungals: Ketoconazole, Fluconazole and Itraconazole.

  4. Antiprogesterone: misoprostol and Mifepristone

  5. Medicines for tuberculosis: Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, Ethambutol, Rifampicin.

  6. Potassium channel openers: Diazoxide.


  1. Beclate inhalers should not be inhaled by patients having hypersensitivity to Beclomethasone Dipropionate or any other ingredient of the product.

  2. It should not be employed to control acute episodes of asthma or status asthmaticus.

  3. It should not be administered by patients having tuberculosis in the past six months or suffering from tuberculosis at the same time.

  4. Do not use this medicine, if you have any kind of infection because corticosteroids make the symptoms of infection unmask and enhance the severity of infection.


  1. Beclate inhaler is meant only for maintenance therapy of asthma. It’s not at all be used for acute asthma attacks.

  2. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, take the permission from your doctor before using the medicine.

  3. After the inhalation wash out the mouth completely with water. This decreases the incidence of oral candidiasis and prevents hoarsening of the voice.

Storage conditions

The storage temperature for Beclate inhaler should be below 30°C. Do not freeze it and prevent it from heat and sunlight. Keep this medicine away from the reach of children and pets.

Missed dose

In case you miss an inhalation of Beclate inhaler, take it immediately when you recall. If it is the time nearer to the next dosing time, the missed dose should be skipped and the regular dose should be taken. Never inhale more than the prescribed one.


The overdosing can be serious, so contact emergency room without any delay in case of overdosing.
