Anti-Gout Drugs

Gout is a disorder which is characterized by the recurrent attacks of the arthritis. It is inflammation in joints leading to pain and swollen. It is caused by the high level of the uric acid in the blood. This uric acid gets crystallized and gets deposited in the joints, tendons and tissues. Gout is a kind of severe arthritis leading to the rigorous pain and inflammation in the joints. This disease affects the big toe, heel, ankle, hand, wrist or elbow.

  2. Colchicines are used in the treatment of gout to inhibit the conversion of uric acid into urate crystals to reduce the number of gout attacks. It’s a choice of medication in those who are intolerable to NSAIDs.

  3. Corticosteroids like methylprednisolone, dexamethasone, prednisolone etc. are generally used to lessen state of inflammation associated with gout.   

  4. Xanthine oxidase inhibitor: These medicines inhibit the production of uric acid and thus prevent repeated episodes of gout, such as allopurinol and Febuxostat.

  5. Uricosurics: These are the agents that increase excretion of uric acid in urine thereby lowering the concentration of uric acid in serum, such as Probenecid.
