Aleve acts as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which are prescribed for the relief from the pain and fever, associated with arthritis, menstrual cramps, gout, headache, backache and tendinitis. Naproxen sodium is present as an active chemical ingredient, which is classified in the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) group. This medicine acts on the cyclooxygenase enzyme and inhibit the action of this enzyme. This cyclooxygenase enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of the inflammatory mediators like prostaglandin and interleukin and leukocyte. In most cases, naproxen is used to treat low category pain to moderate pain aroused due to certain condition, including osteoarthritis, menstrual cycle, headaches and migraines.

Indication of Aleve

Dosage Patients are warned to take these pills only under medical prescription. Your doctor may prescribe you appropriate dose based on your medical condition and response to treatment. As a general rule with any NSAID treatment, the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible duration should be used. In adults initial suggestive dosage of 200 mg daily is prescribed which may be increased following another dose according to the healing effect and patients’ tolerance. Patients should swallow the whole tablet with liquid preferably before meals. ALEVE medication should not be continued for more than 10 consecutive days. Aleve tablets should be kept in a protected container, in moisture free environment, below 30°C of temperature and out of the reach of children.
Side Effects The most common side effects associated abdominal discomfort, swelling, stomach discomfort and indigestion, ringing in the ears, lightheadedness, sickness and headache, constipation, feeling dizzy and tiredness. In the case of unusual reactions, stop treatment immediately and consult your doctor. However, if you observe any sign of hypersensitivity such as uneasy breathing, wheezing or any other respiratory problem, puffiness or inflammation on face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body, rash, itching or hives on the skin please consult to your health care provider. In rare cases this medication can also cause breathing problems, gastrointestinal problems such as gastrointestinal ulcers or bleeding, liver problems such as jaundice, lowered blood pressure, sleepiness and tiredness.

Here are some precautions associated with Aleve medication: • Patients who are allergic or have shown hypersensitive in the past to the active ingredient of Aleve (naproxen sodium) should avoid this drug. • ALEVE can cause serious side effects so it should be taken under close supervision of medical help by patients with current or a history of disease of the stomach and intestines. Hence, pains of stomach or intestines are not advice to be treated with ALEVE. • If you have a history of blood coagulation disorders or currently taking any drug therapy that interferes with blood coagulation, you should not take Aleve without medical consultation. • Concomitant consumption of Aleve with other anti-inflammatory drugs or any other drug that contains naproxen or naproxen sodium substances is contraindicated except under a medical advice. • In case you have initiated Aleve and your pain or fever remains or gets worse or any unusual symptoms arises, consult your doctor. • Pregnant women should avoid this medication especially in the last trimester of pregnancy. • Caution should be exercised in patients who are already diagnosed with any type of hepatic, renal or cardiac failure.
