Advil is most frequently prescribed Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It is widely used as an analgesic, an anti inflammatory and an antipyretic agent. The active constituent of Advil has ibuprofen. Ibuprofen was the first member of Propionic acid derivatives. It is a non-selective inhibitor of cyclo-oxygenase-1 (COX-1) and Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) which are involved in synthesis prostaglandins. Prostaglandins have an important role to promote pain, fever, and inflammation in body. Ibuprofen medicament used to reduce fever, inflammation and pain caused by such conditions headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis and minor injury.

Prescribed amount of Advil

The recommended dose of Advil;

  1. For the treatment of pain: The recommended dose of Advil is 200 to 400 mg orally, every 4 to 6 hours.

  2. For the treatment of fever: The suggested dose of Advil is 200 to 400 mg orally, every 4 to 6 hours.

  3. For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: The initial advised dose of Advil is 400 to 800 mg orally, every 4 to 6 hours.

In case of missed dose of Advil

The probability of missing a dose of Advil is less because it should administer when you needed. Leave out the missed dose and start again at schedule time. Don’t take the 2 doses of Advil at the same time.

In case of overdose of Advil

Symptoms of overdose of Advil are seizures (convulsions), hypertension (high blood pressure), hepatic (liver) and renal (kidney) disorder. In case of overdosing of Advil immediately consult with your doctor and get some medical treatment.

Adverse effects of Advil

Side effects occur while consuming Advil;

  1. Common side effects- Stomach upset, feeling of drowsiness, headache, nervousness, skin rashes, blurred vision and ringing sounds in ears.

  2. Severe side effects- Chest pain, tachycardia and bradycardia (irregular heart beat), bloody stool, swelling or sudden weight gain, less urination, loss of appetite, muscle weakness and seizures (convulsions).

 Use with some cautions

Some cautions should be followed while taking Advil;

  1.       Those patients suffering from kidney or liver disease, they should use Advil with some care.

  2.       Advil should not be used in pregnant or breast feeding mothers.

  3.       If you are suffering from stomach ulcers, avoid the taking of Advil.

  4.       Avoid drinking of Alcohol because it may increase risk of stomach bleeding.
